I’ve just spent one week of fishing in Andaman Islands with Andaman Angler Charter Operator run by Akshay Malavi on his magnificient 38 feet center console boat, a perfect popping and jigging machine ! We were fishing just after the New Moon of February.

Andaman Islands are a jigging paradise, you can do jigging in any water depth, from 10-15 meters of water up to 100-120 water depth.

In the shallow water (10-30 meters) you can find GTs, Green Jobfish, Dogtooth Tunas, Groupers: it’s a super fun game with jigs in the 40-60 grams weight. The Nature Boys Iron Range 662 Quick Drive (PE 1,5 - 3) was just perfect and super fun for this kind of jigging.

Most of the jigging was in the 50-75 meters of water, with some spots with 100-115 meters of water.

In the 50-80 meters of water, the most performing jigs were the ones in the 175-250 grams.
I personally used jigs in the 175-200 grams with the Nature Boys Iron Range 662 Quick Drive (PE 1,5 - 3) and it was super fun!

I caught many species: many different groupers, bluefin trevally, giant trevally, dogtooth tuna, amberjack and rusty jobfish, with specimen up to 15 kg.

One GT was quite solid size for the rod power, and it was just a super fun fight!

I love this rod, super light but with enough backbone to lift the fish. I lost a couple of big fish due to line break (probably some other fish went through the PE line), probably some bigger dogtooth tuna or shark, but that’s fishing.

My friend Giulio was using a much stronger setup, Iron Will power flap IWPS-585BW+PF (PE 5 - 8),

using mainly jigs in the 280-300 grams that let him reach the bottom faster.

He caught many different species too: dogtooth tuna, rusty jobfish, a beautiful yellowfin grouper, bluefin trevally, gt, a nice longnose emperor and some other groupers’ species. Some big fish lost even for Giulio, big doggys or some sharks, we can’t tell.
